I’m A Proud, New Daddy!

03 Feb

Woo-hoo! After a long night and a rough morning of lots and lots of pain. Okay, I wasn’t really in pain. I was just freezing half to death because my wife, Ashley, was on a lot of medication that made her hot and we had to have the A/C on its coldest setting.

So yeah, it was Ashley that was in pain and I felt bad that there wasn’t much I could do for her but be up all night and take care of her. I helped her through the contractions, the breathing and the thirst. When she was fully dilated, we were only waiting for the doctor to arrive.

After an hour of pushing, Leala just wasn’t coming out. Ashley and I agreed to a cesarean (C-section) because we knew the baby would be too big. 4 days prior, the ultrasound had estimated our baby to be 8 lbs -12 oz. That’s a big baby as it is.

Well, guess what. She wasn’t. She was 9 lbs – 8 oz! She’s a big’un!

And so, here we go with the photos:

Leala Xuan Lam was born February 2nd, 2008. She was 9lbs-8oz and 21 inches long. She has a full head of dark hair with blond highlights (crazy, huh?). She has no birthmarks, she is very quiet and she is just frigg’n beautiful!

First, here’s her Mama, Ashley Lam:

Then here she is on the scale:

And here she is in the nursery as they check up on her:

If you look closely, there’s red dot on her left thigh. That was the first shot. She didn’t cry. She got a second one on the right thigh. She cried for 5 seconds… I cried for 5 minutes!

Here’s Ashley all drugged up on the phone with HER mom. I had Leala lay there because Ashley had a c-section. With all those drugs, she couldn’t keep her eyes open long enough to focus so she couldn’t even see Leala. The least I could do is let her feel her baby next to her. She did so great though.

Here’s a close-up!

Ashley is starting to see and feel a little better so I let her hold Leala this time.

And then there’s the new family together!

I’m so proud to be her dad!

  13. BinkyM | February 3, 2008 at 3:00 am

Me, I’d prefer a puppy or a kitten, but I spose you can train a baby to do more useful stuff, huh? She’s just bee-YOO-ti-full, Kev! Oh, and so’s the baby! How’d you get one with her eyes open already? You know you’re not monetizing her properly, right? She oughtta be wearing FAN diapers, a FAN hat, and be sucking on a FAN binky. (Hey! Howzabout a little LED bracelet that runs ads, too? She can be the first baby on the block with one! All the other little babies will want one, too!) (Am I full of great ideas or what?) (You can just tell I’ve had *oodles* o’ babies, right?) (Baby kittens, but they’re the same thing, practically.)

1024*1024 congrats, Mr Big Daddy with the Super-Sized Swimmers! I hope you’ll be giving Ash a big ol’ rest for the next six weeks ’cause she looks wrecked! Hint: food on trays brought to her in bed with flowers, the TV remote, and magazines oughtta perk her up in no time!

Big smoochies to the three of you, little Lam family! I wish you all the best!
