I think you’d be as shocked as I was to hear the answers.

My biggest upset is with this:

Question: In respects to social media websites, such as Twitter, how does a business professional, like myself, implement and entertain the concept of obtaining clients for my business?

Answer: I don’t know. I really don’t know because there is no answer to that. In fact, Twitter is still trying to figure that out themselves. I know someone who has a list of 100,000 followers and gets absolutely nothing out of it.

Now… these are social media experts, alright? Experts on social media… shouldn’t they know how to make money from it? If not, why be an expert in it?

The REAL answer to that question is COMMUNICATION!

Yes, there are such factors such as what type of business industry, product, service and so on, but the NUMBER 1 way to getting business out of sites like Twitter is COMMUNICATION.

You have to post updates. You have to initiate conversations. You have to maintain connections. You have to follow up. This can be VERY time consuming. But that’s what it will take to get clients off of these sites.

It works. No doubt about it.

However, there are automated services to initiate conversations. There are automated services that automatically responds and talk to individuals. There are automated services that automatically add and remove followers (and non-followers, respectively).

Finally… just outsource the damn thing! It’s not hard. It will save you time and money.

Most of all, Twitter already figured out how to make money. They have their own PPC program where you can send out ads to folks who mention a specific keyword term… oh, but Twitter still doesn’t know how to make money yet. Sure.

SEO Trends

Yes, they did mention that Google indexes Twitter updates. That’s news from like October, 2009 or something. I can’t remember for sure.

However, why didn’t they mention that Google is also indexing Facebook pages? Wouldn’t that be something important the audience should know?

How ’bout the idea of Google “PR” no longer being called PR?

Question: I remember the good ol’ days… like last month… when I do a search for “web design dallas texas”, I would get a local map results, but now they’re gone. Why is that?

Answer: Just like many of the beta programs Google comes out with, they sometime stay beta for years and never really get released. With this in particular case, Google has determined that certain keywords require maps and some don’t. I.E. someone searching for a dentist would want to know exactly where it is, but one who searches for a design firm might not care for a map.

Actually, the answer to the question was pretty dead on. The reason I bring this up though is that, I think everyone there missed the importance of this answer. The person who answered probably doesn’t even realize it.

To an SEO, this is huge. It should be ringing the fire alarm and gun shots are going off to indicate that this is CRITICAL information. I’ll keep this to myself unless I get enough inquiries about it.

Website Feedback

One person there got some feedback from the panel on how to improve his website. Most of the advice was pretty sound, but still lacking in terms of importance.

1. You need a 301 – check.
   - Yes, a 301 redirect will definitely be helpful for his site since his site loads individually with and without “www”.
2. You need better titles – check.
   - Yes, a more descriptive title (max of 63 characters) will help with ranking better.
3. You need to use alt tags – check.
   - Yes, having alt tags in your images will help generate traffic via the image search engines and get the images indexed.
4. You should use less codes – check.
   - Yes, search engines like Google do consider a codes to content ratio. It’s just part of their quality score and will considered when ranking your site for specific search terms.
5. You should have a site tracker – check.
   - Yes, you should have a way to track your visitors and see what they are doing. However, they should not be scaring the guy as if it’s the end of the world. He DOES still have his weblog, which provides much similar data, but in raw format. As much as I like Google Analytics, it is still only about 75% accurate in picking up data.

These are good stuff, but here’s what’s missing (and no, I won’t cover everything, but these are important):

1. Don’t worry about the meta keywords.
   - Google doesn’t use them! Yet they’re still telling this person to concentrate on that. Here’s proof.
2. Include meta descriptions.
   - Oh, yeah! This is ultra important in your search results. Well, important to the user, that is. Description meta tags are NOT included in Google’s score to determine how well you rank. However, what you describe is important to the user and determine whether they want to look or not.
3. I’m not going to say it.
   - I was trying to help the guy out, but he blew me off when I told him about the description meta tag. He’s missing out on an instant 5-figure income just by implementing this simple concept. It’s sad, but it’s not my problem. Let’s put it this way – ranking better and higher is the LEAST of his concerns.

As an extra bonus tip for you, since you’re reading, if you’re concerned about keyword density. Don’t. Keyword density absolutely does not matter. What’s important is the flow and ease of reading your content. Concentrate on connecting with your users rather than the search engines. Search engines like to play hard-to-get, so just ignore them.

P.S. I almost forgot. The guys there kept  saying “content is king”. No it’s not and even if it is, backlinks is queen. And we all know the queen controls the king (look at the game Chess!).

Just because you wrote it, it doesn’t mean you’ll instantly and magically have visitors. It REALLY depends on the level of competition, how many people are writing about it, how many people are searching for terms related to it, how well your site is ranked, when your page/post was indexed, how many backlinks it has and so on.

Point is, the content must have relevance to the search queries and the page/post should have good backlinks to ensure getting visitors. Yes, there are times I’d write about something and I’d immediately get traffic. That is not always the case though.

Seriously though,  Mike Crow truly delivered with his presentation on 10 Ways To More Referrals. His 10 ways are running through my head right now and I can’t stop thinking about them. I’m thinking about how I can incorporate what he does and grow my business even more.

These are things we should ALL be applying in our business already. If you’re not, you are seriously losing a lot of money. It doesn’t matter WHAT business you’re in. I suggest you listening to the whole thing. And since I’m not expecting a whole lot of responses (too bad if you don’t take advantage of this), I’ll send you the full audio presentation so you know how to get more referrals and more business.

We’re not talking about referrals for a network marketing business, I’m talking about building a relationship with your clients and making sure your clients are referring others to you. I get referrals from my clients, but the strategies Mike covers are honestly brain-dead simple to execute.

Having a domain just isn’t enough to make your business running and ready to compete. You have to expose your website. Make it known. It has to be visible. It has to be frequently targeted by consumers and surfers.

Invest in marketing your internet site.  There are basically two options available to you, the SEO and PPC. These two are probably the most desirable alternatives you can get for your internet business as strategy for search engine marketing.

1. SEO

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization. Some researches indicate that 60% – 70% of internet surfers and users actually resort to using the Google search engine to find and locate web sites and pages, for any topic they desire. SEO is the process taken to make sure that the internet uses will find your website when ranked among the top results of a search. This way you can make sure that you will be visible and can clearly stand out from the rest.

To get a search engine optimization, you will have to build on your own internet site frequently hit internet links to web site pages. The process will involve IBLN or Independent Back-Linking Network, wherein hundreds or even thousands of pages will be utilized to promote a particular website of a client.

With this kind of advertising, you can still basically control your campaign as you get to create your own ad. You will also manage the target audience and still stay within the bounds of your budget. Most of the providers of PPC advertising will allow you to specify the target market, either by topic, industry or geographical location. You can also very well check if your ad gets to be shown at all and if it is competitive with the rest.

There are some guaranteed benefits when you get to maximize the PPC strategy.

1. PPC lets you advertise to the whole of the online community. It is also relatively easy to set up.
2. At first glance, PPC advertising may seem very expensive. Could it possibly happen that someone out there will go on clicking on your ad? This will definitely give you a large bill without the expected profit on your part. If this provides a lot of worries, be rest assured that there is a protection for you. Networks are able to recognize fraudulent clicks.
3. You can also set a budget for a certain period. The moment your budget has been used up by the target number of clicks, your ads will no longer be displayed until the next period you want it again displayed.
4. You will also be able to adjust well to changes in market demands and trends.

In deciding which of the two strategies will work right for you, think of your goals and of your resources. They definitely offer benefits and advantages that will work for your good. If you just go to Google.com, you can enter into the search field:

“keyword phrase”

This will indicate how many pages mention it in their pages. Take note of how many resulting pages showed up.

Now do a search for:

intitle:”keyword phrase”

If the results here is 10% or less than that of the exact search phrase, then it’s good. However, it also needs to be below 40,000 results. If it’s higher than that, you will have a very hard time ranking for it. It’s best if the results are below 10,000, but it’s not always the case.

It doesn’t mean that it’s impossible. No way. There are keywords we rank for that would seem to be, but we beat the life out of our competitions.

FIGHT TO WIN!

The point in doing all of this is PICKING your battle. It’s like having a row of competitors and then you choose to fight only the scrawny little guys that can’t defend themselves. I know, it sounds very mean, but by the time you’re done knocking all of them out, you’d have gained some experience in fighting.

Yeah, I know, you’re not going to be a pro, but you’ll have plenty of exercise and warmed up for the intermediate fighters. That’s when you start taking them on and knocking them down on their butts.

Seriously though, wouldn’t this make more sense than to dive in and fight the best of the best without any prior experience? Besides, without the credibility, you wouldn’t even be ALLOWED to fight them.

Alright, back to the real SEO talk.

Of course, the number one way to fight your competitors is to build a lot of high quality and valuable backlinks. A backlink is simply some other website linking back to your website. Link exchanges are actually no longer encouraged. Instead, you should consider techniques such as article marketing, blog posting, forum posting, bookmarking and web 2.0 profile backlinks.

There’s much to say about all this, but I guess we’ll have to save it for another day.

There are websites that look good and quite perfect visually but totally wrecked when it comes to the internal structuring. An example is how its architectural design was built. Sometimes, the only solution is to take down the website and give it a complete re-design and restructuring. The changes would convey around gaining new visitor traction an search engine crawl-ability for increased indexing.

A website with good navigation and quality content will rarely lose its visitors. However, some sites that apply JavaScript navigation will not gain a lot of search engine love unless there is an HTML alternative to the menus so that the links are properly crawled. All links to this site can easily be changed into HTML without modifying how the navigation works. This JavaScript case has prevented spiders entering beyond its homepage and by changing the navigation into HTML the rest of the site’s content can now be spidered and get indexed by search engines.

Other issues may include poor navigation that does not allow a user to reach previous pages through the menu. Poor navigation will cause the user to flee and find a site that has good content and easy to navigate.

As a tip, you must keep your codes lean and clean. Keeping your web pages updated with clean codes will will allow your pages to be indexed easier by the search engines. You should eliminate any spider-stopping errors, this will also increase an overall good performance of the site.

Don’t use images for headings and make sure when you do use images that they have alt tags. Alt tags is just another way for you to get more search engine love, because search engines cannot see what the image actually is. By giving it an alt tag, it will then be searchable. Don’t forget the file name itself. Even that can be searched so don’t give it a generic term such as “header” or “footer” but “texasseo_header” or “dallasmarketing_footer” and so on.

Another important step in good internal navigation is giving your internal links very descriptive anchor text. Don’t just link to your home page as “home page” refer to it with an actual name. Don’t just link to “services” link to “search engine marketing services“.

You might be thinking that press releases are reserved for huge companies and corporations to announce that they’ve bought out another company or merging with another. Truth is, you don’t have to be a big corporation or announcing anything like that. It doesn’t matter if you’re a work-at-home mom, small business or whatever. If it is possible you should always use relevant anchor text in your home pages instead of just using the plain old and very boring “HOME” link.

Home page is the most important page in your website, so it is fairly important that that this page has a good backlink from each and every page in your site. This is one good idea and an easy way to create a good internal link arrangements and this also makes the search engines easily indexed your website.

You should always keep in mind that this linking is not just for the Home page in your site, but also to the other important pages in your website. A good example is if you have a blog site, then you want to increase its ranking for some particular and specific article, all you have to do is to give it a side – wide link on all of your previous blog posts.

It is good practice to do this on a constant basis so that you have a strong internal linking system in place. The better structured you are the easier it is for search engines to index your pages. The more indexed pages you have, the higher chances of traffic you’ll receive.

Just remember that there’s more to it than just internal linking and on-page search engine optimization. Search engine marketing is still one of the largest factor in your search engine domination.

As the reports was saying, Bing’s paid click share were because of its strong performance on its Trade and Finance search verticals part that is gaining eleven percent and twenty two percent click shares. As the summer just passed, vacation and travel searches were made by vacationers it is more expected that there will be a lot of searches for very second in the internet world, since net is the fastest way of exploring every part of this world.

The main twist now is: The users actually used Bing for making a search instead of their old and trusty search engine.

This may be shocking news to Bing’s competition and that will be Google. This will start up much bigger flames that will make more adjustments for Bing and Google.

As for Bing’s new found success, they can only make this better and brighter. A good middle start is not that bad and this only shows that Bing has something to say to the world and that it will even show us how good they get.

This is one great start for Yahoo! and Microsoft deal. We can only wait for what’s more to come.

Just so you know though… we’re rooting for Google.

This was an event that was not recorded on video and may go down in history as one of the lost archives. Today was also Kevin’s first time speaking in public. Despite his soft voice in the noisy atmosphere, he spoke loudly with confidence.

One of the members said, “Thanks again. You sure fooled me. I would have never guessed that today was your first public presentation. You came across as a seasoned speaker.”

One thing that stood out the most was when Kevin had everyone raise their hand only to slap themselves. It wasn’t out of disrespect, but to wake them up. We can’t divulge on what it was about because it is members only. You’ll have to be at his future meetups or ask him directly.

And oh, video views had reached 14.8 BILLION!

Are you thinking of a redesign because you’re tired of the same old look?

If so, it is not yet the right time to do a redesign. You might be tired of the look, but a lot of your visitors might rely on seeing the same thing so it is easier to navigate and reference to. Of course, you could also give them a little warning that changes are about to take affect.

On the other hand, if your website is not converting from visitors to members, subscribers or sales, then perhaps it is time for a redesign. It’s hard to know whether your site is converting or not unless you track the number of unique visitors and finding out what they do on your website.

The primary purpose of a website is to capture a lead. If your site is falling behind in that department, then it may be time to re-structure your site, change the content and perhaps even change the design of your website. However, you must take precaution and make sure that the navigation is similar or enhanced.
